COURSE INFORMATION
First Responder - Emergency Medical Responder
INITIAL OR REFRESHERS
This Course is regulated by The La. Bureau of EMS and requires a 30 day advanced notification for the course approval to be received.
This is a 48-hour course and meets the La. Bureau of EMS & United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) standards on First Responder training and is the first level of a series of courses making up the National EMS education program for out-of hospital care.
The Emergency Medical Responder is a designated level of emergency medical care provider. This course is designed to help the new Emergency Medical Responder gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be a competent, productive, and valuable member of the emergency medical services team.
The Emergency Medical Responder uses a limited amount of equipment to perform initial assessment and intervention and is trained to assist other EMS providers.
This class is ideal for first line emergency responders such as fire fighters, rescue squads, law enforcement, park rangers, lifeguards, guides, ski patrol personnel and anyone who wants advanced level first aid training on what to do in an emergency situation.
The certificate issued at the end of the class is valid for 2 years and allows students to apply for The La. Bureau of EMS mandated state certification.

MODULE 2 AIRWAY
● Airway Management
MODULE 3 PATIENT ASSESSMENT
● Assessment of the Patient
MODULE 4 CIRCULATION
● Resuscitation and the use of the AED
MODULE 5 ILLNESS AND INJURY
● Caring for Medical Emergencies
● Caring for Soft Tissue Injuries, Bleeding and Shock
● Caring for Muscle and Bone Injuries
● Caring for the Geriatric Patient
MODULE 6 CHILDBIRTH AND CHILDREN
● Pregnancy and Childbirth
● Caring for Infants and Children
MODULE 7 EMS OPERATIONS
● EMS Operations
● Multiple-Casualty Incidents, Triage, and the Incident Management System
PREREQUISTES
